Thorndon Cook Ltd is a New Zealand based engineering consultancy passionate about applying our technical knowledge to benefit communities and clients.
We provide a full range of engineering services to clients in the power and energy industry worldwide. We trade as Thorndon Cook Power in the power market.
Our History
Thorndon Cook was formed at the beginning of 2015 as WSP - Parsons Brinckerhoff restructured its involvement in the power sector in the Asia-Pacific region. The staff of the PB Power Thermal Group and the Geothermal centre of excellence in New Zealand have formed a new company structured to better match the highly competitive international market for these services.
Thorndon Cook has expertise in the full range of power plant types including conventional thermal, combined cycle, cogeneration, open cycle (gas turbines and reciprocating engines), and geothermal.
The company name reflects the original PB Power Wellington and Auckland offices located in Thorndon Quay and Cook Street. Thorndon Cook looks forward to building on the reputation for excellence in engineering, project management and development advice that had its beginnings in the Thorndon Quay and Cook Street offices.

Our Services
Our services cover all phases of project development. Our work encompasses power and energy projects including geothermal, GT, CCGT, reciprocating engines, biomass and hydroelectric power generation in New Zealand and internationally.
We provide services across multiple disciplines, including process design, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, civil and structural engineering, control & instrumentation, project/program management, and recruitment.
We are able to undertake a wide variety of roles within projects including due diligence studies, concept engineering, feasibility studies including economic analysis, front end engineering design, detailed design, peer review & professional audit, project management, site construction supervision, commissioning, technical assistance during operation, owner’s engineer roles, and lender’s engineer roles.
