The Project
The Darajat geothermal resource is located in West Java, approximately 40 km south-east of Bandung, the major provincial city of the region, and 150 km south-east of Jakarta. It is located nearby two other geothermal fields that Thorndon Cook Power staff have had close involvement with the Kamojang geothermal field and the Wayang Windu geothermal field.
The Darajat geothermal field was first explored in the 1970s by the Indonesian state-owned oil and gas company, Pertamina, and was further delineated in the mid-1980s and mid-to-late 1990s by Amoseas Indonesia.
The project facilities comprised a Stage I, 55 MW power plant and a Stage II nominal 70 MW power plant development. Unit II can be dispatched up to 95 MW (gross at generator terminals).
Our Role
Thorndon Cook staff were involved with Darajat III in providing the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) bid process and bid evaluation. Then during the implementation phase provided site engineering management and construction monitoring services.
Services provided included:
- bid evaluation
- site development assistance
- engineering management
- construction management and supervision
- quality assurance management
- management of change’ coordination
- design coordination and review at EPC contractor’s
Results
The Darajat III expansion of a nominal 110 MW provided a renewable, clean source of energy for the Java–Bali grid. It consisted of an addition to the existing Stage II powerhouse to accommodate an additional turbine generator and balance of plant, another cooling tower, plus extensions to the existing geothermal steamfield.
